Kilchurn Starscape
Loch Awe late one night as the winter Milky Way arches down the sky. The constellations of Cygnus (the Swan) and Cassiopeia plus the Double Cluster, two massive star clusters of around 20,000 stars 7500 light years away. Above the castle you can see our sister galaxy Andromeda, our closest galactic neighbour. The Andromeda Galaxy lies 2.537 million light years away and contains a Trillion stars and is the most distant object visible to the naked eye in the night sky. To the left the smudge of another distant galaxy can be seen also, the Triangulum Galaxy. Triangulum is 2.72 million light years away and contains a mere 40 Billion stars. The beautiful Kilchurn Castle reflected in the mirror calm waters of Loch Awe as cars drive the roads alongside the Loch
