‘The Tree on the Hill Red Aurora’

Taken after midnight early on the 11th of October, my birthday & what a night.   I’d spent the night chasing the aurora around the Lake District and even though I needed to get home and time was tight I quickly called by my favourite tree to see what was happening with the aurora.  As soon as I got out of my van I could see the red colour, right across the sky and I could see the aurora dancing although the haze from the Solway looked to be coming in so I hurried to get my camera set up and to quickly get some shots.  This was the first I took that night and I think may be my favourite.

You can see Ursa Major (The Plough) & the Pole star, Polaris to the left of shot and to the right, the bright star is Vega and above left of this, the constellation Cygnus (The Swan)
