Description
‘First Snow’
Orion, Skiddaw and Bassenthwaite and the first snow of 2021Here you can see the beautiful mountain Skiddaw reflected in beautiful Bassenthwaite as I went exploring with the dogs. Felt really good to be out next to a lake with some truly beautiful conditions. Above and reflected below you can see the constellation of Orion ‘The Hunter’. Made up of a number of stars including Betelgeuse (9th brightest star, a supermassive red giant), Rigel (a blue Supergiant star) amongst others. Also the constellation contains some beautiful nebulae such as the Orion Nebula (Messier 42) and the Horsehead and Flame Nebulae.
Above Orion you can also see the Pleiades star cluster, also known as the Seven Sisters or Messier 45. This beautiful open cluster of stars lies 444.2 light years from earth and has a radius of 17.5 light years.
And, of course I had my faithful friends with me, Floyd staying still enough for a photo here too
