Description
‘The End of Things’
A night in the Lake District with some of the most colourful and beautiful aurora I have seen either in the UK, Iceland or anywhere else. My favourite tree silhouetted against the amazing sky. Didn’t mean the apocalyptic name but it’s the one that popped into my head as took this, and I guess it stuck!
In the sky you can see Jupiter, the brightest in the photo. Below this is the top of Orion (The Hunter) and the 9th brightest star in the sky Betelgeuse, a Supermassive Red Giant 750 times the mass of our sun and lies 700 light years away from us on Earth. Above left of Jupiter you can see the constellation of Auriga & above this Perseus. The cluster of stars you can see on the right are the Pleiades Cluster (Messier 45), an open star cluster in the constellation of Taurus. To the left of the tree although hard to see through the aurora lies the constellation of Gemini (The Twins) and if you look hard enough you can even see Mars through the aurora.
What a night and yet again my favourite tree did not disappoint. A lovely birthday treat from the universe!
