‘Scorpius Rising’

In the Western Lake District lies beautiful Buttermere.  A stunning place day and night its a particular favourite place of mine, at night with my dogs.  The calm and quiet of the valley with breath taking skies and magnificent hills and mountains, it a stunning place.

In this photograph you can see the mountains of Fleetwith Pike, Haystacks and High Stile and the famous ‘Buttermere Pines’ with the lights of Gatesgarth Farm.  In the skies above, the Galactic Core of our Milky Way Galaxy can be seen above Haystacks.  To the right of this, the constellation of Scorpius rising above Scarth Gap.  Sagittarius can be seen over Warnscales Bothy and the Great Rift can be seen following the Milky Way as it arches up across the sky above Fleetwith Pike & Honister.  The Great Rift being massive cloud of dark dust and gas we cannot see into.
