I have been asked last minute to organise a trip to Iceland on the February half term 12th-17th so myself and my friend & fellow photographer Tom Kay are heading over for a photographers road trip.  We are looking for 4 guests in total and there are a couple of places left to date.  As its so last minute and more for the love then we are offering it at the discounted price of £1800 per person.  Its going to be amazing!

The purpose of this trip is to guide fellow photographers around Iceland for a road trip visiting as many locations as possible up to the Snaefellsnes Peninsula and along the Southern ring road as far as The Vestrahorn and enjoy being there taking photographs myself.  I will be there as a guide and will be happy assist and advice but this is not a tuition session as my main goal is to be there to capture photographs myself while showing fellow photographers my favourite locations!

This is a last minute trip and the price reflects this.  This is not suitable for beginner photographers but you do not need to be an expert with all the kit, a decent DSLR or mirrorless, a tripod and a lens or 2 is all you really need, an the knowledge to use it as this is not a workshop, its a guided photography tour seeing the best of Iceland, learned by myself over many trips to the Land of Ice & Fire

Meet Monday 12th February 17.00 at Keflavik Airport.  Should folk already be in Iceland then collection from Reykjavik can be arranged.  Then we drive to Vik to stay for the night keeping an eye for aurora.  Many possible locations such as Dyrholaey viewpoint, DC3 plane wreck, Yoda Cave, Skogafoss should the aurora show.

Tuesday 13th – Wake up at Vik and sunrise at Reynisfjara beach before heading East.  First stop is Yoda cave then on to Fjarllsarlon for lunch and a look at a beautiful glacier and possibly some icebergs.  If close to sunset, then sunset at Diamond Beach then on to Hofn, our destination for 2 nights.  Should there be time and conditions better then try for sunset at The Vestrahorn, keeping an eye for aurora and stars in the evening/night.

Wednesday 14th – Sunrise at The Vestrahorn and some time on the beach looking for shots for later, back to Hofn for lunch and to recharge before returning to Stokksnes to experience sunset.  Then depending on conditions either return to Hofn for dinner and then back for aurora and stars or stay out should conditions be favourable.

Thursday 15th – Sunrise at Diamond Beach and Jokulsarlon.  Walk the lake to see the icebergs, perfect for drones and the chance to see icebergs calving from the glacier and seals swimming the river between the glacial lake and the sea.  After this we drive West, possibly calling at Skaftafell to walk to Skaftafellfoss then west to Vik.  In Vik we pause and look at locations and weather and select the best options for photographs if conditions allow maybe  a walk/bus to the DC3 aircraft wreck at Solheimasandur or go the black sand beach at Vik and then Smidjan Brugghus for dinner.  Many options for later should the aurora show.  Easily accessible ones such as Yoda Cave and Skogafoss.

Friday 16th – Wake and sunrise at Skogafoss then Kvernafoss & Seljalandsfoss before heading West then North to head up to Grundarfjordur.  Here we will visit Kirkjufell & Kirkjufellfoss.  The hope will be for some dark skies and stars above Snaefellsnes and possible aurora over Kirkjufell or the Black Church of Budir.

Saturday 17th – Rise and sunrise, most likely at the Black Church of Budir.  Possibly return to Kirkjufellfoss then head south.  Keeping an eye on the weather and conditions we may then head into Thingvellir National Park or to the Fagradalsfjall eruption site near Grindavik.  Should the eruption that is potentially happening anytime in that area occur then we would aim to be there to witness the spectacle.  The trip ends 6pm in Reykjavik.  The plan would then be to head out into town for a meal (or into the country should aurora be happening).  My flight is 7am on the 18th so should anyone want a lift to the airport at that time then this is no problem.

This itinerary is a guide as to what we would be doing.  The trip will be keeping it very flexible and finding the best of the weather/light in the best location.  Using my experience from many trips we will see the best of Iceland and capture amazing sights both with our own eyes and also with our cameras.

A once in  a lifetime trip to the ‘Land of Ice & Fire’ and an amazing photographic experience
